European History
This year in our study of European history we will learn about how Europe developed from the time of the Renaissance in the 15th century, to the time of European integration in the late 20th century. Major topics will include the period of European exploration and expansion, the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment, the "dual revolutions" of the late 18th century, nationalism and imperialism in the 19th century, and the world wars of the 20th century.  We will learn about cultural and social changes and the roles women played during these changes. Technology integration projects, classroom role-playing actitivies, a fall field trip and work with primary sources will play important parts in our study of European history.

20th Century World History
This year in our study of 20th century world history, we will learn about the increasing global ties among peoples, economies, and nations around the world.  We will investigate the global dimensions of the two world wars and the decolonization movements of the post-world war II period.  This senior history course at Mount Alvernia also includes an important current events and politics component; you will review essential civics material, follow local and state political campaigns and visit the Massachusetts State House. Researching, writing, and presenting your major history research paper for the Senior Symposium is the capstone project of your study in this course.
